Ozark Trail Himont Backpack: A Value-Driven Pack for Camping, Hiking, and More
I am a 6-foot tall male, weighing 185 lbs and it fits just as well as other day packs I've tried. Walmart had a small section of packs and for the most part I was satisfied. I decided to get this one for a light hike I was going to be doing while camping. For the second overnight hike in which I used the pack, I left the hammock at home and stuffed an REI Stratus insulated pad and lightweight bivy inside. We recently took a camping trip to the mountains and I needed a lightweight pack to hold my toiletries (soap, shampoo/conditioner), fresh clothing change and my crocs/hiking boots and my towel. This pack has no extraneous features, save for the small front zip pocket and an internal hydration sleeve. There are no compression straps or other means of securing anything to the outside of the pack, aside from the "daisy chain" on the front. My only knock on it would be the lack of a small water bottle pocket. With access to the Ozark Trail available year-round, hikers will need to prepare differently for each season. It is important to be considerate of hikers and preserve the beauty of the Ozark Trail so it can be enjoyed by future generations. The Ozark Trail passes through areas owned by several different organizations and governmental agencies, so the route may be marked with different signs. Of course it has no side water holsters, or lid pocket, or hipbelt strap, but I think that all contributes to its low weight. For the water bottles I just use Platypus .5 liter and 1 liter flat style bottles, which you can fit in the main body of the pack on top of your other gear. Here's another AWESOME thing about the Ozark Trail Atka day pack. I did instantly notice the difference of carrying a lighter bag. I also don't really prefer single compartment stuff bags, but, this works for what I need. Be aware, this is a daypack, intended for lighter loads and shorter distances. However, some sources may run dry during extended periods of drought. Plan accordingly and carry or cache water in case you are not able to find a source close by. Always treat any water for drinking and cooking along the trail. More than once in the dark I’ve attached a rain fly upside down and we had to restart that particular step. This tent was close to foolproof when it came to the rain fly because it was already connected. At a price point of $79, it's unlikely you'd be able to find anything else that's brand new, competes with its features, and costs less than $100. You can likely find this pack at your local Walmart or online at Walmart.com. We recommend these products based on an intensive research process that's designed to cut through the noise and find the top products in this space. Also a good choice for youngsters who are new to hiking, or who need a rugged pack for toting school items. We like that this pack has a lot of pockets including a zipper that allows you to access the middle of the pack without opening the top. Includes Trekking pole attachment points, compression straps and a sleeping bag compartment. It isn't built to be on your back 8 hours a day, and it won't support 25 pounds. Used for its intended purpose, this is one of the best hiking/backpacking deals I've ever come across. The Ozark Trail had its beginnings in the 1970s when a group of public land managers, land owners, and trail users met to discuss the concept of a long-distance hiking trail.
